Post Hockey

Apart from important family stuff etc, one of the most significant things for me this year is retiring from Hockey. Hockey has ruled my life in the past, I've been completely dedicated to it, often opting to play a club game instead of going to a 21st or weddings (is that bad)? I'm the one that more often than not, played all the matches of the season taking no time off to go skiing, holidays or other events. Love this game.

But now I have decided to put family first and have retired so I can start taking my boys to their sport/art/music... and follow them round and help them be the best they can be at what they choose to do.

But I haven't forgotten about me completely. I have taken up running and to keep me focused I'm training for the odd event every now and then. Got the treadmill in the house and it's going well so far. I'm not a great runner but I've improved a 4km time by 5mins in 3 weeks. A long way to go though as my first event will be 1/2 of the Taranaki Mountain to Sea Marathon. Once the weather improves I'll get on the road and build up the distance.

I'm also loosing a few pounds to get in better shape for the event, so eating healthy as well. Hopefully I can turn this into a lifestyle rather than a 9 month thing. I never had to diet before having children :) But now I've been on that roller coaster of loosing weight putting it back on, loosing it again.... I lost 11kg's last year and have managed to put 3/4 of it back on. Coming off again now.

Watch this space for progress.

(Wondering if I should do a 'before & after' photo)?
